College of Arts & Media Music & Entertainment Industry Studies Capstone Senior Student Portfolios The Department of Music & Entertainment Industry Studies offers several Bachelor of Science in Music degree programs intended to prepare students for a variety of careers in the arts & entertainment industry. Classes and areas of emphasis include music management, recording arts, music performance, and music industry studies. A Master of Science is Recording Arts is also offered in the Department of Music & Entertainment Industry Studies. This project is in development and is targeted for deployment during Spring of 2004. Music Performance The University of Colorado at Denver's Music Performance program is the ideal training ground for students with an interest in classical or jazz, worldbeat or electronic rock, rock bands or avant-garde explorations. This program focuses on the development of of performance skills in classical, jazz, pop, commercial/contemporary and experimental styles. Opportunities change rapidly in the diverse marketplace of today's music, and CU-Denver's program prepares students for a variety of professional paths in music performance. At the same time, it establishes the foundation of general musicianship necessary for any musical endeavor. Students choose from a variety of specialized courses, including small performance ensembles, lessons, contemporary improvisations and analysis, and music history and literature. Music Performance classes introduce a unique education in current styles, interdisciplinary collaboration and technology.

Music Management The University of Colorado at Denver's Music Management program is the perfect way to combine a love of music with a successful business career in the music industry. This program prepares students for a variety of careers in the music industry, from managing artists and music merchandising to record production and telecommunications. Classes cover all areas of artist and music management, including marketing, promotion, financial analysis, music production and the legal aspects of the music industry.

Recording Arts The University of Colorado at Denver's Recording Arts program prepares students for careers as creative musicians, producers or technicians in the music industry, by studying contemporary analog and digital technology as it is used in studio recording, sound reinforcement and electronic music. While mastering the high-tech, students also study the artistic applications of technology to recording, reinforcement, composition and performance. The University of Colorado at Denver hosts a student section of the Audio Engineering Society (AES), an organization whose membership ranges from students to professionals from the Rocky Mountain area. Student officers of AES are active in organizing special events, which reach a large audience. In the past, students have organized events such as regional conferences on Stereo TV/Audio, Composers and Technology, and Rocky Mountain Avalanche, a national electronic music symposium.

Music Industry Studies The University of Colorado at Denver's Music Industry Studies program provides training for student who enjoy music but perhaps are not accomplished musicians, and who are interested in technology or business. This program enables students to combine diverse interests and prepare for a career in the music & entertainment industry. Music Industry Studies is a flexible program that allows students to concentrate on the business side of the music industry, focus on music technology, or create a personalized, integrated course of study that combines both areas of emphasis. Students develop a broad range of marketable skills in music management, promotion, publishing, producing and audio engineering. Classes cover the business and legal aspects of music & entertainment, as well as the technologies associated with music recording and video and multimedia production. Graduating seniors take with them a foundation in the language and practice of music that allows them to function intelligently and knowledgeably among musicians and others in the industry. |
