“Medical Visualization of Conjoined Twins”
Wednesday, October 14
11:30am - 12:30pm
Starz FilmCenter, Theatre 6
Tivoli Student Union, Auraria Campus
Surgical separation of conjoined twins is an extremely complex process that can involve long term evaluation and planning by large surgical teams. Vermilye will discuss various medical visualization techniques such as rapid prototype modeling, 3D animation and 2D illustration used in the planning and operation stages of several conjoined twin separations. Special attention will be placed on evolution and innovation of methods over time.
Travis Vermilye has been involved in the creation of anatomical models, illustrations and animations derived from medical image data for the surgical planning of more than 20 cases of conjoined twins. His work has been shown on the Oprah Winfrey Show, Dateline NBC and Discovery Health as well as international magazines, e-zines and publications.
This event is sponsored by UC Denver’s College of Arts & Media and the Denver Film Society at Starz FilmCenter.
