UC Denver’s A Cappella Ensembles

UCD 6 A cappela ensemble

UCD’s A Cappella Ensembles offer a rich variety of singing opportunities for all levels of singers, from beginners to professional quality vocalists, ready to compete and perform.

UCD Voices is an entry level, non-auditioned group for those looking to experience choral singing for the first time, or for those with limited group singing experience.

The 9th Street Singers, directed by Dr. Erin Hackel, is one of UCD’s Signature ensembles. This 16 member auditioned group is an elite performance ensemble, dedicated to singing cutting edge, contemporary a cappella music. Their repertoire is eclectic, varied, and often student composed and/or arranged. The 9th Street Singers perform at University events throughout the semester, as well as at a large, final concert. The women of the 9th Street Singers were 2007 finalists in the Rocky Mountain Harmony Sweepstakes, and select members will be competing in the Colorado Collegiate A Cappella Competition in November, 2008.

The UCD 7, directed by Dr. Erin Hackel, is UCD’s premiere, 7 member a cappella ensemble. UCD’s first competitive performing group, these elite singers and performers have many singing engagements throughout each semester. The UCD 7 have been finalists in the Rocky Mountain Harmony Sweepstakes, as well as yearly competitors in the Colorado Collegiate A Cappella competition.

This year, both the 9th Street Singers and the UCD 7 will be recording a surround sound CD with Recording Arts faculty member, Leslie Gaston.
