UCD 8 A cappela ensemble

Voice Audition Information
1) Prepare two contrasting songs from any of the following genres:

  1. Musical Theater
  2. Jazz
  3. Pop/Rock/Contemporary
  4. Folk
  5. Original Composition

Both songs should be memorized. Unless the selection was originally intended to be a cappella, all songs should be accompanied. You may accompany yourself on piano or guitar, you may bring an accompanist, or you may request a piano accompanist. If you wish to have an accompanist provided, please bring the appropriate music for piano, either in sheet music format, or with lead-sheet chords.

General musicianship assessment:
Your musicianship ability will be assessed through some short pitch-mapping, rhythmic recall, and sight reading tests.

3) Schedule your audition
There are two audition dates for the 2009-2010 Academic Year. Both of these dates fall on AMMA testing days, for your convenience:

Friday, February 19th from 10am-3pm
Friday, March 26th from 10am-3pm

To schedule an audition time on either of those days, please contact Dr. Erin Hackel at erin.hackel@ucdenver.edu or (303) 556-2723.

While students are encouraged to perform “live” auditions whenever possible, this is not always possible for out-of-state students. For those out-of-state students who cannot attend a live audition, a recorded audition may be sent in lieu of a live audition.  Recorded auditions must contain the type of repertoire listed above and be five to ten minutes in length. Recordings will not be returned. Recorded auditions may be sent to the attention of the faculty listed above to:

Music & Entertainment Industry Studies Department
College of Arts & Media
Campus Box 162
P.O. BOX 173364
Denver, CO 80217-3364

4) Audition Deferment
a) An audition deferment is used for MIS (Music Industry Studies) students who choose the MIS curriculum track. This document is available at cam.cudenver.edu/meis or in ARTS 177.

5) For futher information and questions
Please contact the Music & Entertainment Industry Studies Office at (303) 556-2279 for further information or questions or a College of Arts & Media advisor.
